February 2007

Here are the first shots of Purclewan Mill before a trowel or hammer is lifted. Already you can see the natural beauty of the stone features within the barns, a lot of which will be retained and enhanced.

The site is beautiful with a stream passing by and a pond feature as you enter, it has a real ‘darling buds’ feel about it.

There is also much history to Purclewan being set in the heart of Burns Country. It is said that the daughter of the Miller at Purclewan Mill, Nellie Kilpatrick, was the heroin and inspiration for Robert Burns’ first piece of poetry, ‘Handsome Nell’. Robert Burn’s, aged 14, lived 2 miles away at Mount Oliphant Farm, he met Nellie, then aged 12, in the harvest field at Purclewan Mill and she became his first girlfriend.
